The Michael

Michael, understanding the opportunity I opened the door to the building and entered. I was not shy but fascinated. I didn't close the door behind when I left in case you wanted to follow.
The Michael, located on Lawn in south city, has a welcoming and broad front patio.

And another glazed terra cotta ornamental detail:
The side of the building faces the street and that's rare. Check out the faux bricked-in windows:
I so appreciate the address engraved into the limestone 'window' apron.

    Flowers for St. Louis

We've all seen the stars that were used as ties on our historic buildings in St. Louis. I recently spotted a couple of fleur-de-lis:

    The Fleur-de-lis as architecture detail

The Fleur-de-lis is the symbol of St. Louis and can be found in the interiors of homes as well as exteriors. I love that and am always on the hunt. I've heard of the Fleur on register covers, In BPW, I've seen them as connected to tie rods (instead of the standard star).

These photos were taken by Christopher Thiemet of Circa Properties in the house of Steve Wilke-Shapiro when it went on the market.

This is the third stained glass window I know of in TGS featuring the Fleur.

    Gothic Garage

This garage in TGH that serves to illustrate every Flannery O'Connor novel I've read.

I had been enroute to meet Bad Tim for dinner when I spied a man near the garage and stopped to chat. He was the owner and after we chatted long enough for him to determine I wasn't as weird as I really am, he allowed me to come into his yard to do these photos.

Bonus point! The fleur-de-lis which completely captivated me. The owner said he thought it was a family crest. (Bad Tim disagreed over dinner.)
The owner told me the house was built by a stone mason named Bauer.

    I am so freaking envious.

    LOCAL HARVEST GROCERY

Just opened in my neighborhood and I've been meaning to pix this fleur-de-lis lock plate for months. What a score! Also picked up loads of groceries.

    FLEUR-DE-LIS

I do some creative driving and it allows me do conduct Brick spotting while motoring through the city. Fleur-de-lis spotting is my version of a scavenger hunt. It requires chronic scanning.
