I am doing genealogy research on the Winkle and Handley families in St. Louis. Winkle Terra Cotta was owned by my family. St. Louis Vitrified and Fire Brick in Maryland Heights was managed by my great grandfather, Walter Handley (married to Lillian Winkle), until it was closed and sold to Alton Brickyard. He then went back to work for Joseph Winkle until his death in 1910. I too, am becoming fascinated with St. Louis brick! Thanks for sharing!
